Why is it that so many of the squirrel protection groups who receive a vast amount of government funding are not protecting the species only monitoring it and charting its demise.

I hope this group who appear to be proactive and serious about the reds survival can grab a chunk of our taxes and acheive something useful.

Mankind throughout history has wiped out many species, Beavers, otters North American pidgeon, Dodo, Unicorn to name but a few, without even trying, I am sure we can remove Grey Squirrels without much effort.

Even though to admit this is politically incorrect We are good at genocide.

Suggest you have a look at my website to see how the red is being betrayed, we have a situation in northumberland where greys are established in the Angerton area and the estates refuse to trap. No one is prepared to challenge them and they continue to infect our reds. This is confirmed by yet another incident at a National Trust estate at Wallingto who are not trapping even though they lost at least 7 reds in one outbreak last year. Am afraid its a case of spin, spin and more spin.

I think you are right as regards funding. Our group tried for Breathing Spaces/Big lottery funding for our  pro-red squirrel project. We put in loads of work with costings, photographs, agreements from landowner etc etc.. we got nothing.
I have repeatedly tried to contact one of the main pro Red organisations (funded in the way you describe with LOTS of money) by email to ask for advice for our group and so on .... they have not even had the decency to reply!  This new setup puts them to shame actually.
