I have recently moved to Longwitton, Northumberland from Newcastle.
There, the colony of reds in Gosforth Park seems quite safe. Out here in the countryside I have been horrified to note the speed of cars on these quiet roads and how that impacts on the wild life. Many pheasants are hit, and rabbits of course. But two days ago I spotted a young red that hadn't made it across the Netherwitton - Meldon road. There are signs out here saying 'Red Squirrels!' But I wish motorists would spare a thought.

Hmmmm. The reds in Gosforth Park are safe as long as idiots don't release pox-carrying greys into the area. Would anyone be so stupid as to do so I wonder?!  Rolling Eyes
